The Second stop of the 2013 European Peanut Butter and Rail was hosted last Saturday 12 January by the european capital of Snowboarding, LAAX, in Switzerland.
That was the best opportunity to inaugurate their brand new Stairset, built by IOU Ramps, located in the impressive Rocks Resort. The setup consisted of a kinked ledge with granite top, a downrail and a crazy multishred obstacle.
If you spend some time in Switzerland, you should definitely go to LAAX check out the perfectly shaped parks, pipe and all kinds of features.
To ride this set up required big balls, so we guess that’s one of the reason why only top riders and rail killers decided to participate (the other reason might be bluebird skies with fresh powder). So around 50 riders signed in, and unfortunately no kids this year (where the heck were you?).
But the starting list name was impressive and everyone was hyped for a great show of snowboarding about to happen.
The contest started at noon, and it became immediately serious…from the beginning we saw all kinds of presses, slides and combos you can imagine. It was great to see such a highly motivated bunch of shredders.
The 16 and over division was no joke, setting immediately the level for everyone. In the end, Andrin Caviczel took the win in front of Igor Wandfluh on a very fierce battle, giving a hard time to the judges.
The girls just destroyed the setup as well, combining some smooth and pretty hard tricks. LAAX Local JJ was a step further, dominated the girls division and won
In the Open category LAAX headshaper James Niederberger dominated all the heats in front of past PBRJ Championships winners Thomas Goldebella (2010) and Jesse Augustinus (2011). Such and impressive podium right there!
Check out the video clip for the action, we can’t mention here all the tricks that went down.
Altogether it was another great visit and of the PBRJ in LAAX, we`re looking forward to next year. Big thanks to the LAAX shaper crew and resort!
Further thanks to everybody who helped to make this event so epic and of course to Nitro and Vans for the great extra prizes.
